Experience and Dedication: I am an educational therapist with 15 years of experience. I specialise in literacy intervention for dyslexic and high-functioning autistic students. Prior to private tutoring, I taught at the Dyslexia Association of Singapore where I provided literacy remediation for up to thirty-five students. I also taught at-risk children at Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach, which draws upon multi-sensory experiences to teach the child phonological knowledge. While worksheets are used to concretize knowledge in a more formal way, I also include learning games to make lessons more engaging. Additionally, I am very familiar with the MOE curriculum and have supported many of my students from kindergarten through PSLE, and even into Secondary school. My lesson plans are thoughtfully prepared, detail-oriented and specifically tailored to meet the student's needs. I genuinely care about each child I teach and strive to support them holistically, with compassion for any academic challenges they may be facing. Notable grade improvements in my students: 1) Ian: I started teaching Ian when he was in K2. His parents and teachers suspected he was dyslexic as he was performing behind his peers and could only read a few simple words. He managed to attain a score of 82% on his latest exam (P4). His parents are pleased with his progress and were confident in referring his cousin to me for lessons. 2) Anish: Anish was a non-reader even though he was taught phonics at school. He could not identify simple words like “a”, “I”, or “the”. He struggled significantly with blending for reading. Within 6 months, he was able to read and reached sufficient fluency for us to work on higher-order skills like writing and grammar. 3) Clara: Clara was diagnosed with mild dyslexia. She was borderline failing in P1 and was a weak reader. By P2 she was scoring in the top 4 of her class. I supported her through PSLE and she scored well enough to make it to Secondary 1 (G3 Express stream). 4) Douglas: Douglas was diagnosed with ADD and autism. He was failing in P4 but through intervention, managed to gain entry into Sec NA stream. He is now comfortably passing English and even Literature. 5) Noah: Noah was diagnosed with autism, ADHD and language delay. We started intervention when he was in K2. He is now in Sec 2 and scored "A" on his latest exam.
