Experience and Dedication: I transitioned from teaching in well-known local enrichment centres like MindChamps to offering private tuition, in order to further elevate my level of personalised support for each student. My students love learning through my interactive and memorable activities! In my highly personalised approach, I break down complex concepts using metaphors and explanations that are highly relatable to your child. Over and above simply adapting to the online format, I hand-craft my lessons and materials to ensure an immersive and highly effective online learning experience. What sets my teaching methodology apart is its effectiveness and memorability. My fun and consistent legend system — such as timelines for the 12 time tenses, and colour-coded Subject Verb Agreement — helps students understand, remember and apply complex concepts. Some of my students have pushed a high but stagnant score up to the next level, while others have progressed from failing to As and Bs. It has been rewarding to see that they now count English amongst their strongest and favourite subjects. Some additional GP-related profile info: * Raffles Institution (Junior College) - GP: A and Dean's List * Raffles Girls' Secondary School – gained competitive entry to Raffles Academy Literature Programme, Philosophy Enrichment Programme, MOE-NUS Creative Arts Programme, MOE-NUS Humanities and Social Sciences Research Programme; multiple published works of mine remain in the National Library of Singapore * Raffles Girls' Primary School – Gifted Education Programme In 2023, close to 90% of my students scored A, with the remaining students improving by leaps and bounds, such as one Science combination student pushing his grade up by 3 grade ranks to B. Everyone has a unique and insightful viewpoint within them – they just need to learn how to express it convincingly. My students have gone from dreading argumentative essays to becoming confident writers. Using both relatable contemporary media and academic resources, I help my students master extracting, analysing and synthesising key information to serve our writing purposes. In the first place, however, I teach students to identify our real purposes – buried within the exam questions themselves. Unfortunately, students often lack the skill to perform this crucial step effectively! Together, we categorise and decode exam questions with a critical eye, extracting every single nuance and implication. My students are equipped with a toolkit for each common question topic (eg STEM, the environment, local and international politics). Armed with an arsenal of vocabulary, rhetorical devices, and structuring techniques, they learn to craft compelling arguments that leave a lasting impact. When it comes to A-level preparation, I don't believe in mindlessly churning out essays and passively reviewing marking feedback. I prioritise hands-on guided editing, maximising improvement from each marked draft. Additionally, my marking is colour-coded by skill and aspect, tailored for effective review and revision. Instead of passively reviewing and giving feedback, I customise post-marking tasks and prompts based on my students' strengths and weaknesses, to provide a fresh and active learning opportunity. Finally, in teaching GP skills, I break down complex techniques step by step. For example, instead of giving general examples of “paraphrasing”, I demonstrate my own versatile strategies for how to actually deconstruct and rearrange sentence structures in any context. This skill-based approach is all the more important with the change in question format and marking in the new 2024 GP syllabus. Ultimately, I aim to help you achieve a score that reflects your full potential and opens doors for you.
