Experience and Dedication: Teaching Philosophy: As a performance educator, the aim for me is to teach my students on how to improve in the fastest way possible, hence I have helped many students who are failing English to pass it and then improve to a B and more if the student had sufficient runway to do it. (Foreign China students I took who had an extremely poor grasp of English have gotten a pass in the O level within a few months) This is done by teaching them different strategies and key points to take note of to tackle the paper. Not only that, I will also teach and emphasize on building their understanding on the marker’s psychology so that by consistently putting themselves in the shoes of the paper setter and the grader, they will know their “enemy” intimately and do what is needed to give them what they want to score. The rest of the lesson plan towards the exam is to practice these strategies to tackle the different papers and to also refine those strategies to the needs of the students to allow them to better improve their capabilities in the subject taught. The lesson plan is set out to cycle between the different components of the English papers every week, from Oral to Essay to Comprehension and Summary. More focus will then be provided to the student on the components that the child is weaker on while ensuring that he / she does not lag behind in the other components using such a cycling method. Moreover, if there is a substantial runway, I will help students work and drill on their English fundamentals (Grammar Foundation). This is to ensure that they know what are the different grammar laws that they have to be sensitive and aware of to greatly improve their English standards. I too strongly believe in the notion that "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." I emphasize heavily on the importance of planning to my students so that they would be clear on the steps and strategies to apply for the examinations in each component of the paper, and hence be in “the zone” the minute the invigilator says "You may begin”. ~Teaching materials, curated worksheets and homework of the latest syllabus that are used at the tuition centre where I teach at are all provided. Students do not need to buy any assessment books. ~A student Feedback Report is provided to the parent every month to ensure the parent is kept in the loop on the progress of the student.
